Historic All-Ireland Girls’ Soccer Title!
There are very special days in the life of a school and May 19th, 2026 is one of them!
Our school made school history in Athlone this afternoon by capturing our first ever All-Ireland girls’ schools soccer title, winning the FAI Schools First Year ‘B’ National Cup Final.
In a superb contest played in Athlone AFC, our girls produced a performance full of determination, teamwork, resilience and composure to overcome Glenamaddy Community School on a scoreline of 1–0.
The decisive moment came after 20 minutes when captain Lily O’Leary found the net with a wonderful finish that ultimately proved to be the winning goal. From there, the team defended bravely, worked tirelessly for one another, and showed tremendous maturity and spirit throughout the game.
This achievement is a remarkable milestone for our school and a proud moment for our entire community. The players represented St Michael’s with enormous heart, and they have created memories that will last a lifetime.
We are deeply proud of every member of the panel, their families, and all who supported them along the way.
A special word of thanks to Ms Morrissey, the team manager, and her TYs, who accompanied and supported the team throughout the year. We are grateful to the many students, staff and supporters who travelled to Athlone today, and to our wider school community for the encouragement shown to the girls in recent weeks.
Days like this remind us what school sport is truly about, opportunity, belonging, commitment, courage and shared joy.
Today, our First Year girls have written themselves into the history of St Michael’s Community College.
Congratulations girls !
