Child safeguarding in our school
The safety, wellbeing and protection of children and young people are of the highest importance in St Michael’s Community College. Safeguarding is a core responsibility shared by all members of our school community.
The Department of Education’s Child Protection Procedures for Primary and Post-Primary Schools (revised 2023) provide clear guidance for schools in meeting their statutory responsibilities under the Children First Act 2015 and in implementing the best practice principles outlined in Children First: National Guidance for the Protection and Welfare of Children (2017).
These procedures apply to all recognised primary and post-primary schools and to all members of school personnel.
Our school’s Child Safeguarding Statement and accompanying Risk Assessment are reviewed annually and are available on the Policies section of this website. In addition, a Child Protection Oversight Report is presented to the Board of Management at each Board meeting in line with Department of Education requirements.
Students are supported in understanding their right to feel safe, listened to and protected within the school environment. Through our pastoral care structures, wellbeing provision and daily interactions, we work to ensure that students feel cared for, respected and supported at all times.
