Our school crest reflects not only our values, but also the deep history and identity of the place in which our school is rooted.
Kilmihil, Cill Mhichíl, translates as “the Church of Michael,” a name that has been part of this community for centuries. The village itself grew around an early church dedicated to Michael the Archangel, believed to have been founded by St Senan in the sixth century .Over time, the area became closely associated with St Michael, with a well-known shrine and holy well that drew people from far and near .It is from this local heritage that our crest takes its inspiration.
At the centre of the crest is Michael the Archangel , associated with protection, courage, and justice. He is shown with scales, symbolising fairness, balance, and integrity, values that remain central to how we live and work together as a school community.
Encircling the image is the name of our school, representing the strong connection between the school and the wider Kilmihil community, past and present.
The banner carries our motto: “Trí Fhoghlaim, Saoirse”.This reflects a simple belief: that education empowers young people, giving them the knowledge, confidence, and independence to shape their own lives.
