Extracurricular Life at St Michael’s
Life at St Michael’s extends far beyond the classroom. We place a strong emphasis on students getting involved, trying new things, and finding where they belong. Whether it’s on the sports field, on stage, in competition, or working as part of a team, these experiences help students to build confidence, develop friendships, and feel connected to school life.
There is something here for everyone. Students can take part in a wide range of activities including football, basketball, athletics, soccer, outdoor pursuits and a variety of sporting events throughout the year. For those with an interest in the arts and creativity, opportunities such as the school concert, choir, public speaking, and school magazine provide important outlets for expression and talent.
The DEN provides a calm, welcoming space where students can relax, play chess or board games, and spend time with friends in a quieter setting. For students who enjoy reading and deeper thinking, the Dystopian Book Club offers an opportunity to engage with challenging and thought-provoking texts, while sharing perspectives in a supportive group.
Students are also encouraged to take on leadership roles and contribute to the life of the school through the Student Council, Green Schools, as Ethos Ambassadors, in enterprise activities, and charity initiatives.
Trips and events are an important part of the student experience. These include theatre visits, field trips, competitions, and opportunities to engage with further education and career pathways.
What matters most to us is that students feel part of something. We actively encourage all students to get involved, not just those who are already confident or experienced. Participation builds confidence, strengthens friendships, and helps students to feel at home in our school.
